Climate World 2010: ending up with the crisis - getting to work

From March 9 till March 12 at IEC Expocenter (Krasnaya Presnya) in Moscow, there took place the Sixth International Specialized Exhibition Climate World 2010 organized by Association of Professional Companies in Industry of Climate (APIC) and Euroexpo. Climate World is not just the largest HVAC exhibition in Russia, but it is the only project assembling HVAC companies and firms specializing in industrial and commercial cooling equipment. Besides, the exposition presents building automation and control systems; tools, consumables, refrigerants, oils; training, job placement and consulting services on the HVAC&R market.

Exposition placed in the 1st and 8th pavilions of Expocenter created the impression that the crisis was over, at least in HVAC industry. Climate World-2010 was slightly inferior to that held in the pre-crisis year of 2008. There were presented products by such leaders of the HVAC&R market as: AERECO, ALFA LAVAL POTOK, BITZER, CAREL, CIAT, EBM-PAPST, EMERSON, FRICO, GALANZ, GENERAL CLIMATE, HITECSA, KORF, LG ELECTRONICS, LINDAB, REMAK, ROSENBERG, SHARP, SIEMENS, SPIRO, TESTO, TROX, ZIEHL-ABEGG, BELAYA GVARDIA (WHITE GUARD), VEZA, INROST, CLIMATVENTMASH, POLEL, PROMAEROTEKHNIKA, PROMKHOLOD, RM-VENT, RUSKLIMAT, THERMOCOOL, TROPIK, TEPLOMASH, HICONIX, CHERBROOK and many others. Estimating the entry list, a representative of one of the companies said: “Every company which was able to remain stable after the crisis participated in the show.”

Since there were few come-and-go people at Climate World - 2010, the after-crisis exhibition was called “a show of professionals”. Even in past years they weren’t numerous, but nevertheless according to enquiries, in 2008 84.29% of visitors declared they were drawn by professional interest, while in 2010, their share was 93.91%.

Comparing to 2009, crisis year, the number of visitors grew by 3,000. Correlation by work statuses of participants was almost the same: about 54% are directors, discipline heads and top-managers. To check out statistics, view the photo-report, get to know participants' opinions, download presentations, go to corresponding website sections.

Novelties of the exhibition

From the first minutes till the closure, the exhibition was crowded, interesting and cheerful. At the General Climate stand, one of the exposition sponsors, well-trained “medical” personnel rendered “fist climate aid”. Perhaps, there was not any photographer who resisted the temptation to aim his lens in the direction of the “first aid room”.

At the same stand module refrigerating plant Domino was presented. By connecting its modules on the “domino chip like” principle, one can assemble a unit of necessary cooling performance. Domino is working on R410A and has high energy efficiency: depending on selected mode CO2 equivalent emission for generating 1 kW of cooling amounts to 65-100 g.

One of the leading industrial refrigeration market players - Thermocool company - offered an engineering solution based on Turbocor centrifugal compressor (for additional information, please, read an article on the compressor market in this issue). At the Thermocool stand, PRIHODA fabric ducts were presented which make it possible to accommodate a ventilation system for a big facility in a small truck. The producer of these ducts also participated in the exhibition and according to its representative exactly Thermocool covers the major part of its selling in Russia.

Another participant of the industrial refrigeration market - Carel - showed new series of thermal expansion valves E7 V. According to Carel representatives, they are most efficient TEV on the market and can be used at cooling plants of up to 1750 kW.

In addition to new domestic split systems, LG Electronics presented Multi-V III - the system featuring variable refrigerant flow. It will enter the market only in 2012.

GREE is a developing company, which is why at every exhibition it presents lots of new products. This time in addition to domestic and precision conditioners, the company introduced semi-industrial U-Match units and modular chillers. At Climate World - 2010, GREE was represented by EUROCLIMAT.

As reported in the last issue of our magazine, SIEMENS has never positioned its products as inexpensive. But at Climate World - 2010 the company introduced low-end thermostats, valves and controllers. We should admit that it is one of the topical market trends - many companies started offering affordable products.

Domestic ventilation equipment manufacturers - Normalvent, Lissant, Serpukhov plant, Galvent and others - were presented extensively. In this issue you can find an interview with KORF representative - the company engaged in production of ventilation systems in Russia.

Business and scientific program

This was the first year when the Business Center was opened at the show. On the territory of the Center the stands of the industry-largest companies – APIC, ABOK, official exhibition partners - SRO ISZS-Proyekt and SRO ISZS-Montazh, web-portal TopClimat – as well as representative offices of manufacturers were hosted.

The conference hall became a platform for the symposium on “The state and prospects of climatic equipment market development in Russia” with participation of heads of self-regulating organizations, HVAC equipment manufacturers, experts from the APIC Training and Consulting Center and ABOK specialists.

Within the scope of the exhibition business program, heads of recently established self-regulating organizations ISZS-Proyekt and ISZS-Montazh delivered a speech and answered questions on the operation of SRO. Read answers of F. Tokarev, General Director of SRO ISZS-Montazh, in the column “SRO Advice” of this issue.

Specialists interested in vital questions in the area of ventilation and air conditioning benefited from technical workshops. NP ABOK prepared an ambitious program on its standards and products: beginning with A/C system load computation in case of abnormal heat input and ending with usage of polypropylene pipes in engineering systems. There was organized a live webcast of the panel discussion “Innovative Technologies in Design and Construction: NP ABOK Standards”.

The speech of V. Tselikov, Advisor of the Directorate of FSUE FCGS Ecology and UN consultant, dedicated to limiting HVAC import and manufacture (primarily R22) gave rise to a lively discussion. It is worth noting that V. Tselikov has been working this problematics in real earnest for a long time and offers firsthand data. His article on HCFC phase-out and short-range plans of the government was published in Climate World #60.

At the TCC APIC stand, air curtain characteristic verification unit assembled with the assistance of Teplomash and Testo Rus specialists. Yury Yakuba, TCC specialist, showed that rating can be reached only in ideal conditions, while a real user will encounter quite different parameters. As this topic provoked keen interest of the majority of visitors of the TCC stand, we are going to dedicate a special article to air curtain verification.

Climate World - 2010 through the eyes of participants

Leonid Kiryakov, head of "Inrost”, “Nimal” companies and of General Climate company – an official sponsor of “Climate World" exhibition:
World is helping its participants to push up sales.

We value and like the exhibition, believe it is the most significant sectoral event, and next year we are going to sponsor it.

Olga Kambalina, Deputy Director of KORF Sales Department:
— I like the way the exhibition was organized, we had no problems participating. I like our stand very much. We had a significant flow of visitors, and we can see already that the exhibitions pays back. The only thing that could be better is meals for participants.

Sergei Ozerov, Deputy Commercial Director for Marketing of ROLS ISOMARKET company:
— This year’s exhibition was located in two pavilions and that, sorry to say, was not best for the convenience of the visitors. I hope that next year all the exhibition events will be held on a single platform.

Pavel Bursa, President of Vertex Group:
— We believe that there were less visitors than in the pre-crisis period, but at the same time they are not of the lower level. The most stable companies are still supplying equipment and, despite the crisis, the shining eyes say that everybody hopes that the previous season will not repeat.

According to our visitors’ comments, everybody likes our stand, there is a lot of people around all the time. Of course, it doesn’t always go the way it was intended, but we solved our tasks for the exhibition. Yesterday, there was a queue at our stand. So, from the standpoint of useful contacts, the exhibition was worth it.

Albert Kirillov, member of the Board of Directors of Thermocool company:
— There is a feeling that the market is comes to life; we had meetings with end-users and designers as well, so the participation in the exhibition was useful. By number of contacts, this show is equal to those pre-crisis. We value our participation positively.

Stanislav Deshuk, leading specialist of LESSAR trademark:
— As to my opinion, there are positive tendencies: both exhibitors and visitors are interested in each other. This year we didn’t have a stand and participated only in the business program, but next time we most likely will present our exposition. The only disadvantage of this show is that it was held in two pavilions.

Andrei Bruk, Director of CAREL’s representative office in Russia and CIS states:
— The exhibition demonstrated that the Russian HVAC&R industry is in good shape, and many companies are steadily coming out of the past year’s depression. Since Carel is engaged in refrigeration and climate automatics, we can see that a borderline between “refrigerationists” and “ventilationists” disappears and many specialists start mastering neighboring fields. Another clear trend was, in our opinion, the significant decrease in the number of purely distributor companies. Many of them open own manufacture.

Generally speaking, the exhibition made positive impression, and Carel company plans to participate in this event in future.

Mark Bruno, President of Les Trovac Industries company:
— First impression is very positive. Representation of well-established HVAC companies at the exhibition points out its high, international level. I’m satisfied with the interest to the centralized vacuum cleaners, all the more so that for our partner OOO OKNA ROSTA represented by Director Olga Lopatina, it’s not the first year of working with centralized vacuum cleaners. Our partners are promoting our CYCLOVAC trade mark very well. We believe that the adjacency with HVAC companies is critical as they start working in the buildings under construction at the same stage of construction as we do.

Jerom A. Bonomm, Director for Export to CIS states and Japan, Director of Aereco’s Representative Office in the Russian Federation:
— I liked that the exhibition is held on the threshold of the season and attracts attention of visitors from all round the country. As to this year, the place in the city center is very convenient. We are quite satisfied with our stand, the visitor flow increased a little. But we still sense the crisis influence. People are concentrated to a larger extent on their own problems and to the lesser extent – on the issues of executing contracts with producers of new technologies. On the other hand, there occurs some kind of natural selection. People who visit the exhibition and our stands take more interest and are more committed.

Alexander Kuznetsov, Director of Sanyo’s Representative Office in Russia:
— I think that the exhibition is even better than last year’s. It has always been well-organized, while the foot traffic is probably even larger. Since the crisis broke out, outsiders fell off, and mainly professionals have remained. This year, there have arrived many visitors from regions. People seem to get tired of crisis, so they began to think of future.

Yuri Akimovich Tarasenko, Head of “Buildings Energy Efficiency” department at Siemens company:
— Siemens Buildings Energy Efficiency department manufactures appliances and automation systems for heating, ventilation and air-conditioning. It can be said that the companies represented at the exhibition are our prospective customers. Not too many companies which sell automation systems are represented here, so our products are in great demand.

Sergei Vladimirovich Ivanov, General Director of TopClimat.ru HVAC equipment portal:
— The impressions from the exhibition are various; however, one thing can be said for sure – the most significant event in HVAC industry of Russia was a success. Of course, the exhibition differs from three previous ones that we participated in, but the quality of its organization and the attention of the market participants are the same.

Alexander Ivanovich Baranov, Commercial Director of Vings-M:
— This time we came into more contacts than before crisis. I think the reason is that contractors started searching for suppliers. We established relations with some contractors that were previously dealing with other manufacturers of fire-safety valves.

Vladimir Vladimirovich Kuleshov, Head of Ventilation and Air-Conditioning Systems Department of Gepard company:
— Our expectations have been answered. The first day was necessary to speed up, the second was marked by inrush of clients. We managed to arouse interest in installation organizations with our tools, consumables and accessories.

Ilya Anatolievich Lukashev, General Director of Olil company:
— This year, the exhibition is much more successful for us than in previous years. This is may be due to the widening of our range of products or due to the alliance with Mattex exhibition. Our stand is larger than last year and we are very happy with the outcome. I hope that this investment will bring good return.

Anna Igorevna Suyevalova, Director for Marketing at Prime Climate company:
— I like that there is a lot of industry-specific information and great amount of new literature. Despite the crisis we are quite optimistic about the situation at the market. At the exhibition, professionals are working who have not lost their interest in the exhibition. I liked the design of most of the stands.

Boris Nikolayevich Vlasenko, Sales Director at Teplomash company:
— Climate World is the largest HVAC exhibition we participate in. At the exhibition, there is good business-like, working atmosphere. The main change as compared to the previous year is that the exhibition returned to Krasnaya Presnya. I believe these changes had significant impact on its traffic.

Sergei Vasilievich Nikolayev, Commercial Director of Electrotest company:
— We’ve know this place for a long time – we were at Climate World when it was here. We observe live interest in our products. People are coming away from import and searching for reliable, pretty and affordable home-made solutions.

Anatoliy Sergeevich Polyakov, Marketing Director of Tehnoklimat company:
— We have a positive impression from Climate World-2010. Unfortunately, the first day was not very successful – I think that this is due to celebration of the 8th of March: many people were celebrating, it was quite calm in the first half of the day; however, the second day returned this in full. The exhibition proved for another time to be interesting for regional representatives, customers and dealers. This is conditioned by the fact that Russian market is not at the end of its growth resource. There were a lot of representatives of PRC which are actively looking for new contacts. On one hand, it’s good, on the other – it’s a little worrying – price dumping is starting.

See you later!

The seventh International Specialized Exhibition Climate World will be held from March 1 till March 4, 2011. Again, it will be held at Expocentre on Krasnaya Presnya, but this time it will be placed in Pavilion 2.
